Being instead of Doing

We women, most often want to do something! Even women who are in the midst of a trial, often want to fix something, to accomplish something. We can find that we spend a great deal of time being preoccupied with thoughts of when the problem we are currently facing no longer exists. Because of that preoccupation, we can busy ourselves. We can busy ourselves in all sorts of ways...we can cook, clean, shop, sleep and eat our way to dealing with heartache. Of course, we look forward to getting out of the desert, but, we often miss such an important lesson in all the "doing" and the "wishing away of the days." We miss the simply "being." Being in love with Christ, being satisfied with him. It's much easier for us to remain busy - to do something- rather than sit still - waiting - being.

We have a habit of checking off a box from a spiritual to-do list and we think if we do all of those things on the list, then, surely, we'll feel better, we'll feel closer to Christ, we'll be more spiritual, or that God will love us more; we'll be more deserving of his love.

There is nothing that I can do to add to God's love for me. I can't work my way onto his lap, I can't wedge my way into a deeper standing with him. His love for me is already overflowing. His sacrifice for me has already been done. It is a finished task. Just like my own children could not do anything that will add to my love for them, likewise it is with our Father. Only, God's love is perfect. While I might become disappointed with my children, or react instead of respond, or even become annoyed, God is abounding in love, patient, long-suffering and I say once again - His love is perfect. I can simply enjoy the fact that my "Abba-Daddy" loves me, unconditionally. I can simply enjoy "being."
